A winding path

From Silence to Freedom: My Journey

I grew up in a world where questions weren’t always welcomed. Where pain was hidden behind rules, and personal struggles were tucked away out of fear.

I don’t share my story for attention — I share it because someone else is where I was: hurting, doubting, wondering if life could be more. If that’s you, I get it. And I’m here to tell you, you’re not alone.

A Quiet Place to Breathe

There was a time in my life when I couldn’t even put words to what I was feeling. I didn’t know how to explain the shame, the anger, or the quiet voice inside that told me something was missing. I was surrounded by people, but felt completely alone.

Let your heart breathe. Let the questions rise. You’re allowed to wonder. You’re allowed to feel. And yes — you’re allowed to hope.

“I Was Raised Amish — But I Knew There Had to Be More”

From childhood struggles to spiritual transformation, this is my journey from silence and shame to healing and purpose.

My name is Samuel Troyer, and I was raised in an Amish home. On the outside, everything looked okay — but inside I carried deep wounds, shame, addiction, and a longing for freedom.

After years of struggling with identity, anger, rejection, and brokenness, I met Jesus in the middle of my mess. I finally found peace, healing, and a new purpose.

Today, I help others who feel trapped — especially those who were raised Amish like I was — discover that there’s life on the other side of fear.

Jesus is the Way

My life changed the moment I gave everything to Him — my struggles, my shame, and my future.

Pain Doesn't Define You

I’ve walked through rejection, addiction, and regret — but I’ve found healing on the other side.

Transformation

I’ve seen what happens when you stop hiding and start letting God rewrite your story.

From Amish Roots to a Life Redeemed

I was born into the Amish world — quiet, strict, and often confusing. But behind the rules and simplicity was a storm I didn’t know how to face. Addiction, anger, rejection — it nearly consumed me. But God met me in the middle of my mess. Today, I’m walking in freedom, purpose, and hope.

The Early Years: Growing Up Amish

I was adopted into an Amish family as a baby. My childhood was filled with silence and confusion — never truly feeling like I belonged. I struggled deeply with rejection, and over time, those emotions turned into anger, bitterness, and self-destruction. By the time I was 11, I had already fallen into patterns of addiction that would haunt me for years.

Breaking Point & Rock Bottom

At my lowest point, I was battling addiction, anger, and a broken sense of identity. I cried out to God, but it felt like silence. Eventually, I was sent to a counseling center. That week changed my life. I started to face my pain, open up, and let others walk beside me. It wasn’t easy — but for the first time, I saw a glimpse of hope.

Leaving the Amish: Choosing Freedom

I realized that unless I made a radical change, I’d never truly be free. So I made the hardest decision of my life: I left the Amish. There was no plan, no money, no backup. Just a deep conviction that I couldn’t heal in the same place I was broken.

Conference

The Weekend That Changed Everything

I was invited to a men’s leadership conference. That weekend, God broke through the walls I had built for years. I truly felt free for the first time—stepping out of darkness into the light.

A New Life — Built from the Ground Up

I taught myself technology and web design, proof that anything is possible with grit and faith. I now work full-time as a web designer at Troyer Websites and recently launched Traditional Siding LLC. I am engaged to the love of my life and getting married in November 2025.

My Life Began in a Hospital... But My Story Took a Different Road

Adopted as a newborn from the English world, raised Amish from day one. A lifelong search for identity that finally found its answer in the Creator.

I was born in a Fresno, California hospital to parents I’ve never met. Just a few days later, an Amish couple brought me home to a very different world. Growing up, I always sensed that I was different—not just because of adoption, but because of the deep ache for identity inside me. I felt the weight of being the "outsider" even in my own community.

“My value isn’t defined by people — it’s defined by the One who created me.”

It took years to understand that my beginning didn't dictate my destination. God used those early years of silence and confusion to prepare me for a life of helping others find their own true identity in Christ.
